Sign up for NZ’s iconic cycling event and Cycle for Heart Kids

We invite you to take part in the Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge and cycle for Heart Kids on 29th November.

This premier cycling event has 20 categories, including road and mountain bike courses for individuals and teams, which cater to all ages and abilities. Registrations for the event itself are open at www.cyclechallenge.com

Heart Kids NZ is proud to be the Official Charity of the Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.

Whilst Heart Kids does not receive funds directly from the event itself, all riders are given the opportunity to cycle and fundraise for Heart Kids. Your support will make a difference to the 12 babies born with a heart defect every week in New Zealand.

Create a supporter page at http://www.everydayhero.co.nz/event/cycleforheartkids2014, share it far and wide with your family and friends and ask them to sponsor your effort.

You’ll be raising essential funds to give heart kids life-changing experiences at Camp Brave Hearts and Camp Teen Beat. You’ll also be helping to provide heart kids and their families with resources, information, vital family support that is not provided or funded by the government or any other New Zealand organisation.

Meet Johnny and Georgia johnny_georgia_badges_of_bravery
Both received open heart surgery at just four days old

Johnny is a bright, beautiful four-year-old who loves cars. He tells people he will be driving a yellow Lamborgini when he grows up. Much like car racing, Johnny’s young life is a journey of ups and downs, twists and turns, hopes and fears.  He was born with a hole in his heart.  He also has two rare congenital heart conditions which would have been fatal without corrective surgery.

Georgia was born with a heart defect. The left side of her heart was unable to pump enough blood to the body and the overworked right side of the heart would have eventually failed. Surgery was Georgia’s only chance of survival.  Dad Warwick said, “Our world shrank immediately after Georgia was diagnosed with a heart defect. All that mattered was our child’s recovery.”

Each week in NZ, 12 babies just like Johnny and Georgia are born with a heart defect. There is no cure, and Heart Kids is the only charity in New Zealand that assists heart kids and their families by providing practical and emotional support through counselling, CPR training, camps, medical equipment and much more.

As Heart Kids receives no government funding, we rely on your generosity to be able to provide services to heart families.

Your donation is extremely important to Heart Kids because it will help us continue to provide much-valued resources, experiences and assistance to Kiwi heart families that need our support.
