Meet Johnny and Georgia johnny_georgia_badges_of_bravery
Both received open heart surgery at just four days old

Johnny is a bright, beautiful four-year-old who loves cars. He tells people he will be driving a yellow Lamborgini when he grows up. Much like car racing, Johnny’s young life is a journey of ups and downs, twists and turns, hopes and fears.  He was born with a hole in his heart.  He also has two rare congenital heart conditions which would have been fatal without corrective surgery.

Georgia was born with a heart defect. The left side of her heart was unable to pump enough blood to the body and the overworked right side of the heart would have eventually failed. Surgery was Georgia’s only chance of survival.  Dad Warwick said, “Our world shrank immediately after Georgia was diagnosed with a heart defect. All that mattered was our child’s recovery.”

Each week in NZ, 12 babies just like Johnny and Georgia are born with a heart defect. There is no cure, and Heart Kids is the only charity in New Zealand that assists heart kids and their families by providing practical and emotional support through counselling, CPR training, camps, medical equipment and much more.

As Heart Kids receives no government funding, we rely on your generosity to be able to provide services to heart families.

Your donation is extremely important to Heart Kids because it will help us continue to provide much-valued resources, experiences and assistance to Kiwi heart families that need our support.

Join us and help support Kiwi heart kids as you take on your own Cycle Challenge – it’s easy and you’ll be making a huge difference as you ride.

It’s Heart Kids NZ’s annual national effort to raise awareness and funds for the 12 babies born every week with a heart defect in NZ.
