The Canterbury branch is well established with support being provided from about 1991. We are a big branch with over 420 families. Many are in the greater Canterbury area but we also have families in most parts of the north of the South Island. We provide a variety of services and try to meet everyone's needs.
Our main service is information and support through our family support workers, especially when your child needs to go up to Starship Hospital. We also provide a travel subsidy to enable an extra support person to go up to Auckland with the parent and heart child. We arrange special hospital gift packs and try to help families in a variety of ways through this stress ful time.
We hold monthly "Murmurs" coffee groups for our parents of babies and young children, "Cardio-youth" events for our teenagers and heart adults as well as family events for everyone. These help you meet other heart kids and parents. We also hold Education Evenings on topics suggested by members.

Hard on the Heels - Peter Bush Capturing the All Blacks
Canterbury@Heart held a private viewing of the Hard on the Heels – Peter Bush Capturing the All Blacks photo exhibition on 30th November 2011 at Canterbury Museum. Mayor Bob Parker and Crusader Robbie Fruean were some of the special guests who came to the event.
Robbie is a former IRB World Under 19 Player of the Year. He had an open-heart surgery to repair a condition known as pancarditis, a potentially life-threatening inflammation of the heart.
Robbie was the joint leading try scorer in the 2010 ITM Cup, making 10 touchdowns and went on to win the 2010 ITM Cup Player of the Year Award.

Manawatu @Heart offers a discretionary financial Cardic Surgical Support Grant.
This is available to our Branch families to assist them with their expenses during an admission to when cardiac surgical procedures are being undertaken outside of or region.
To comply with auditing requirements all applications must be made on the approved application form and submitted to Manawatu@Heart complete with the requested accompanying documents as listed on the form. Details of the criteria and process are included in the downloadable application form as 'Cardic Surgical Support Grants Criteria & Process' document.

Catherine was born in Palmerston North on 20th May 1986 with a complex congenital heart condition. Catherine passed away on 28th July 2004. Manawatu@Heart received donations in Catherine's memory from her friends and family.
Each year up to $1000 will be allocated to applicants will the fund remains active towards tuition fees or equipment in relation to academic, sports, arts or hobby course for a heart child in the Manawatu area. Applications will be collected by the chairperson and must be received by 1st December.
The successful applicants will be decided upon a committee meeting in December and must meet all the conditions of the grant.

Our branch was established as a support group approximately 25 years ago. We became a branch in 2005 and are run with a committee of volunteers.

300km one day bike ride
Southland blokes to raise money for local children with a heart condition
Five Southland blokes will attempt to cycle about 300km in one day from Invercargill through to Milford on Saturday 29th October. These keen fellas are doing this for a great cause – to help raise awareness and funds for Southland@Heart children with a heart condition and their families.
The team including non cyclist Steve Rhodes from Feature Cars and hairstylist social cyclist Jason Gerken from The Bronze Connection is training hard now and would love you to show your support too for Southland@Heart.

 GREETINGS FROM THE TARANAKI AREA
Taranaki@Heart covers a wide stretching area from Urenui to Waverley and over to Whangamomona and includes New Plymouth, Stratford, Hawera, Opunake, and Okato districts.
We have neighbouring groups in Whanganui and the Manawatu.
We also have a facebook "closed" group that you can join it is: Taranaki@Heart.

The support group was originally established in 1994 and was changed to an affiliated branch in 2004 to allow us to provide more services to our members.
We can provide you, your heart child and their siblings with support in many ways: emotionally, educationally, having fun with other families who understand the daily challenges you face.

| Breast Pump Hireage |
free for up to 6 months as your heart child requires it and at wholesale cost after that time or if you wish to continue using it for your convenience. You can also purchase any pumps or accessories through us at wholesale cost.

| Travel Packs |
We provide three types of packs for hospital stays and visits:
- local hospital stay pack. If you have a short (or long!) term stay at Base Hospital or if you have regular scheduled overnight stays.
- Catheter/MRI pack. If you travel to Auckland or Hamilton for MRI or catheter or any other procedure your cardiologist books you in for.
- Surgery pack. If you travel to Starship for surgery.

| Local Newsletter |
We produce a newsletter approximately bi-monthly. This is sent by email or it can be posted, to members and includes upcoming events and items of interest. |
| Family Days |
Every 3-4 months we hold informal Family Days at different 'family-friendly' locations. Check our newsletter or contact the Branch Secretary for more details. All are welcome. |
| Christmas Party |
Every year we invite our children and their caregivers to celebrate Christmas. We also invite Santa and his sack of goodies along too!!! |
Looking forward....
We are currently working on a policy which will enable us to provide travel assistance to a second support person for when children need to travel to Waikato or Starship Hospitals as well as a policy around the loan of pulse-oximeters for families to use at home (under medical guidance).
How you can help us?
Becoming involved in the fun activities, fundraising or committee work. We are not a high pressure group. You choose a level of participation that suits your family.

| Coffee Groups |
Everyone welcome - coffee, cake, lots of chat and children of course!

| Family Fun Days |
We try to hold a Family Fun Day event every 3-4 months. These are advised through a flyer, in the newsletter or through an email to our members. All welcome. |
| Committee Meetings |
These are held approximately every 6 weeks at alternate committee members homes. Join us for coffee then for the meeting afterwards.
Our meetings are informal and it is a great way to keep up with what the group is doing to help others.
You do not have to be a committee member to attend.
Please get in touch with us for information on the location of the next committee meeting if you would like to attend.

| Special Events |
Special Children's Extravaganza
We have been notified that this is coming up on Sunday the 24th July (the second weekend of the school holidays)
At this stage, we do not know how many tickets will be provided to us but again will be provided with limited tickets. We will first approach families who we know of who have had medical intervention or have been actively involved with @Heart in the past 12 months to ask if their heart child is able to attend.
Following this, we will be writing to our other families on a first come first serve basis for the other tickets.
We are sorry but unfortunately once the tickets are gone, we do not have access to any others.

Wellington@Heart looks after 330+ families in the Wairarapa, Hutt, Wellington and Kapiti Coast area. Our fabulous committee is made up of parents, friends and Youth@Heart. We are so proud to have four adults and Youth@Heart on our committee which means we feel we are really able to help our families!
We hold regular family and youth gatherings, meetings and morning teas. These are for our families to socialise with peers and meet others who have the same unique issues around having a heart child in their family. Everyone is welcome! Check out the dates below.
